Hee lieve lezers!

Hi lovely readers!
I haven’t read a lot of books written by two or more authors. I came to realize that when I scrolled through my reading history. I know Erin Watt is officially a writers duo and I’ve read all of their translated books so far. I also read Set Fire to the Gods recently, written by Sara Raasch and Kristen Simmons. Dry is written by a father and son: Neal and Jarrod Schusterman. But apart from those, I don’t really see any other books by two authors. But now I can add another book to that list. These two authors have a already written quite a few books on their own. And now they collaborated. That made it very interesting for me to read this one.

Prince North’s home is in the sky, in a gleaming city held aloft by intricate engines powered by technology. Nimh is the living goddess of her people on the surface, responsible for providing answers, direction—hope.
Linked by a terrifying prophecy and caught between duty and fate, they must choose between saving their people or succumbing to the bond that is forbidden between them.
The way this story is put together is quite original. A part of humanity lives between the clouds, provided by technological developments. While the other part lives on the ground, who believe in prophetess, magic and destiny. But they are ravaged by deadly fogs and scarcity. They don’t know about each others existance, there are only old stories and tales. In the first few chapters the perspective between Nihm and North is alternated. The differences between their worlds and their beliefs become clear in these chapters. But when the two of them really meet each other and tell each other about their lives, about their family, friends and where they live, the differences turn out to be even greater than you’d expect. The first half of the story is mainly about this. You get to know Nihm’s world better through both of their perspectives. These changes of perspective are of great importance, because it let you see the great and also the small differences between their worlds. The questions they ask themselves when they receive new information about for example, magic or technology, show that they are also skeptical about each other.
But in the second half of the story, they find out there’s more to their worlds than they expected. The introduction has taken up quite some time, but the authors still manage to keep the story interesting. Nihm not only has followers, there are also people who do not believe in her as a prophet. As North and Nihm make more discoveries about the history, the stories and the prophetess that Nihm’s people believe in, it turns out that there is more truth in them than they thought. But which truth is real? This also makes you question the way Nihm and her people live. Because how can you believe in a prophet, if you are not even sure if the right person has taken on that role? These uncertainties are solved later in the story. Many discoveries are made and the pace of the story increases due to all of this. Yet sometimes it feels like there’s something missing. As if the story is not complete, or misses a few details here and there. Therefore the world doesn’t always come to life as it could’ve come to life. Perhaps the sequel will change this.
This first book is mainly about Nihm, her people, her customs and her world. Not many details from North’s world are shared, except what he tells Nihm or what he experiences at the very beginning of the story. This makes you quite curious about the sequel in this series. I hope that here will be more information about North’s world, perhaps even an opportunity to take a closer look to where he grew up. But fort hat we will have to wait until the sequel is published.
