Hee iedereen!
For English scrol down!

Hi everyone!
Even though I buy a surprise box from time to time, I forget to check the theme’s and the books that might be in them sometimes. That’s how I missed out on the Illumicrate box of November 2019. When I found out which book was inside of this box, I felt so dissapointed! A beautiful and signed copy of a book I really wanted to read. Ofcourse I could buy the regular version somewhere, but I still really wanted to have this special edition. So I posted a search ad in a few groups on Facebook and that’s how I finally got my hands on this Illumicrate version. Including a preview, bookmark and a letter from the author. How awesome is that!?!

Description: In the Cyrilian Empire, Affinites are reviled. Their varied gifts to control the world around them are unnatural—dangerous. And Anastacya Mikhailov, the crown princess, has a terrifying secret. Her deadly Affinity to blood is her curse and the reason she has lived her life hidden behind palace walls.
When Ana’s father, the emperor, is murdered, her world is shattered. Framed as his killer, Ana must flee the palace to save her life. And to clear her name, she must find her father’s murderer on her own. But the Cyrilia beyond the palace walls is far different from the one she thought she knew. Corruption rules the land, and a greater conspiracy is at work—one that threatens the very balance of her world. And there is only one person corrupt enough to help Ana get to its core: Ramson Quicktongue.
A cunning crime lord of the Cyrilian underworld, Ramson has sinister plans—though he might have met his match in Ana. Because in this story, the princess might be the most dangerous player of all.
First of all, wow! The first few chapters of this book contained a great dose of action, but also a lot of new words, names and places. Due to all those names, which also started with a capital, the first few chapter were a little messy and unclear. Even though the pages were filled with action and I tried to get a good image of the world of Blood Heir, I still felt a little struggle trying to settle into the story.
After all new words had passed by atleast a few times, I was able to concentrate on the story. And that was fantastic. In the beginning I thought the writing style was a little too hard for me or not quite how I like it, but it turned out it was to blame on the new words at the beginning. Because after that it took me no extra effort to read ruther.
The story really got to me in only a few chapter and it didn’t let me go. The way the author plays with the perspectives of the characters was magnificent. It created another layer in the story and increased the tension. Everytime something exciting happend of was about to happen, she switched over to another perspective. That’s what made it harder to put away the book. Then she also knows how to describe the characters and make them come to live. Ana and Ramson bear secrets. In the beginning those are not yet revealed, but bit by bit the author gives us more information which eventually makes the pieces fit together. Everytime you think you’re getting a step closer to the truth, something unpredictable happens and reveals another side to the truth. Even the contacts and relations from Ana and Ramson with other secundair characters seem very real. The dialogs and their friendships are so realistic and strong, it’s very plausible and feels very real.
Action, tensity and adventure are right on spot. Especially the last one. Ana and Ramson are both traveling long distances and all kinds of things happen during their journey. They have to deal with quite a few setbacks. Only a few things are predictable because the author keeps surprising us. Nothing goes quite as planned and the outcome’s always a little different than expected which makes it a lot more interesting. For instance when Ana or Ramson get attacked, is doesn’t pass without a good fight. Not overdone or extravagant, neither too short which would make it unbelievable. In combination with the powerful magic from the Affinites, the story gets an extraordinary twist. Everything seems possible, but more difficult to accomplish. The ending is, again, not as suspected. With the development of powers and the personal growth of the characters, some choices and changes are not as expected.
Just like the beautiful details on the cover and the inside of the book, it’s content is in perfect proportion, powerful, intensly believable and strongly written. It’s hard to put the book down because of the great variety of chapters. I couldn’t get enough of this book and I can’t wait to read the sequel.
